Daniel Bauer is Houdinii. . . The Story. . .

A magic kit given to me on my eighth birthday started my love for the art of illusion that has forever changed my life. I was so excited about the tricks in the box I asked my mother to find some local magic shops in our hometown, Poughkeepsie, NY, so that I could learn more. I put together a small routine which was performed at libraries, churches, small corporate events, and birthday parties year after year. While these events provided me many opportunities to experience working with crowds and honing my skills, I decided that conventional magic was not enough for me. At the age of 19, I was determined to create my own magic and illusions as well as begin studying the art of escape. I challenged my family and friends to tie me up and then leave me until I could free myself. At times, I would be tied up for hours and hours before I would escape.

At the age of 22, I began to feel an increasingly strong sense of connection with Harry Houdini and I commenced a study of his life to find out why I felt this connection. For the next four years, I worked on mastering escapes from handcuffs, chains, straightjackets and locked trunks. It was at the age of 26 that I realized Houdini and I had very similar lives and that there was indeed a strong soul-connection between us. I was stunned to learn that both of us had sustained injuries to our left leg during escape attempts. I was also surprised to learn that Houdini was born 26 years before the turn of the 20th century, and I, 26 years before the turn of the 21st Century. Even more compelling, both of us loved a woman named Bess and spirituality was a driving force in our respective families; his father was a rabbi and my mother a minister.

At the time I learned of these similarities between my life and Houdini's, I thought they were nothing more than intriguing coincidences. In 1999, a paranormal experience, while performing in Europe, proved that these connections were much more than coincidences. During one of my usual meditations I felt the presence of Houdini's spirit as it communed with mine. I began to understand through this and continuing spiritual communications that I was the one chosen by Houdini to bring back his essence and carry-out his legacy. To him, I vowed that I would remain unique and share the power of magic and escapes as I engage with audiences around the world.
